La souterraine,
[vicosia id 2427]
General details
Situated in the heart of the Limousin close to the medieval market town of La Souterraine is this glorious Chateau style property, in need of some love an attention to bring it back to life.
The property is surrounded by 35 hectares (approx 88 acres) of parkland and agricultural land, with barns and other outbuildings on the site including a four bedroom gite. There is also a lake of around 1.6 hectares that is well stocked with fish, including some carp of up to 15 kilos according to the owner! There are then a further 117 hectares of woodland and meadow that are not attached to the main property. The main house, although very tired is fully habitable and lived in at the moment. On the ground floor there is an entrance hall, kitchen, large dining room with fireplace and inset wood burning stove, huge drawing room with wood panelling and a marble fireplace, office, utility room and toilet. The first floor has 5 bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite bathroom, as well as a further bathroom and 2 separate toilets. On the 2nd floor are a further 4 bedrooms, a shower room and 2 separate toilets. On this floor there is also a fantastic attic space over the large tower. This space is in 2 parts and has the spectacular woodwork for the roof structure on show. It would make a wonderful bedroom with en-suite bath/dressing room. Up again is attic space over the area of the main part of the house; whilst under the property is a huge cellar with a vaulted area, the old ‘coal hole’ and a very large wine cellar! The property is situated near the beautiful medieval town of La Souterraine, and the further non-attached land – all 117 hectares of it – is only a short 4km drive away just on the other side of the town. There's probably enough land to put in a few tennis courts and maybe even an 18 hole golf course as some of the land is hilly so the course could certainly be made challenging, attracting golfers all year round. There are only three other full golf courses in the Limousin so the market is certainly not saturated!!
